Bearinger recall passes narrowly, senior and tax millages pass, incumbents hold their seats on county board. by Angie Asam Staff Writer The Bearinger Township supervisor recall effort passes by a narrow margin, 100 voted yes while 94 voted no, just six votes made the difference in recalling supervisor Karen Silver. In the District 1 county commissioner race, Robert Schell defeated Wayne Vermilya 141-86 while in District 4 Carl Altman defeated Allan Berg 232-128. The senior millage for the county passed with flying colors with 2,049 voting yes while 808 voted no. By a 64 to 36, percent margin the county tax proposal passed. IN STATE election news, Virg Bernero won the Democratic race for governor while Rick Snyder won the Republican seat.

Dan Benishek narrowly defeated Jason Allen in the Republican race for U.S. House District one. Benishek gathered 27,070 votes while Allen had 27,058, a difference of just twelve votes. Rogers City native Casey Viegelahn edged Presque Isle resident Patrick Pokorski in the Democratic race for 106th District state representative. Viegelahn gathered 62 percent of the vote. Howard Walker gathered 64 percent of the vote in the state senate district 37 Republican race to defeat Randy Bishop.
