Carmeuse Lime & Stone, which has 90 production facilities in 13 countries across Central and Western Europe, North America and Africa, including one facility in Rogers City was founded in 1860 and is celebrating their 150th year in business. A leading global producer of lime, high calcium limestone and dolomitic stone used for steel production, masonry, mortars and building materials, road construction, glass production, agro-food, paper, chemicals, plastics, carpets, paints, pollution and gas control, water treatment and many other things that are used in everyday life, Carmeuse encouraged all of their facilities to take a day to celebrate the anniversary of the company.

Saturday the Rogers City plant and retirees did just that. A tent was set up in the Rogers City Marina parking lot and a celebration began with kids games at noon. Laser tag was the highlight of the kids day, and some of the adults as well. Kids also enjoyed potato sack races, a treasure

hunt, a sawdust pile, face painting and just having a good time. Adults had the opportunity to be off work for the day, with their families and co-workers visiting and having a good time. A meal of hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, deserts and fruits catered by Karsten?s Restaurant was served around 4 p.m. Prior to dinner Rogers City officials made presentations to the company for their dedication in business and cooperation with the city. Following dinner prizes were auctioned off with each employee receiving at least one prize if not two or three before all the prizes, which were donated were gone off the table.

The tent then began to clear and many employees stayed to help clean up the tent and move the picnic tables out of it before they headed home for the evening. The focus of the 150th Anniversary celebration for Carmeuse Lime & Stone in Rogers City was getting families involved in the entire celebration, a goal that was accomplished with something for everyone being offered throughout the day.
