Katie Robins crowned Miss Onaway

A new Miss Onaway was crowned last week with the honor going to Katie Robins, the 17 year-old daughter of Steve and Wendy Robins. Katie, who will be a senior this fall at Onaway High School (OHS), won the evening gown award and performed a comic song and dance routine to ?Men in Tights.? She earned a $1,250 college scholarship for winning the title of Miss Onaway 2010.

First runner-up title went to Heather Hoffmeyer, the daughter of Tony and Sandi Hoffmeyer. She is a 2010 graduate of OHS who performed a comedy routine titled ?First Kiss? from the play Tomorrow?s Wish. She earned a $500 scholarship for winningg first runner-up.

Molly Ellenberger won the talent award with a graceful jazz dance to ?Fame?. Taylor Price won the photogenic award as the judges voted on photos taken by Bryan Haskill of Haskill?s Photography and Design. Payton Lupu and Kourtni Hyde were the other contestants in the field.

Pageant director Kim Wregglesworth kept the show running smoothly as she handled both announcing and technical duties. She presented a slideshow, featuring Haskill?s phot

ographs of the contestants, and told jokes between talent presentations.

Queen Katie Robins takes the place of 2009 Miss Onaway Nicolette Olree, who made a cameo in the opening number as a police officer to the contestants? jailbirds. The contestants danced to Michael Jackson?s Smooth Criminal. sShe also performed a dance routine with last year?s runner-up Miranda Collins.

The contestants were judged on an interview earlier in the day (30 points), the opening number (15 points) their talent presentations (30 points), the evening gown presentation (20 points) and the on-stage question (5 points).

The new queen and her court with reign over the July 4 weekend festivities and make personal appearances throughout the year representing Onaway.
