Don?t forget to vote. Residents will take to the polls in Tuesday?s primary

Residents of Presque Isle County, like others across the country, will take to the polls Tuesday for the primary election. Voters countywide will decide the senior citizens services millage for a four-year renewal of a half a mill. The millage is a major source of funding for the Presque Isle County Council on Aging?s outlet in Onaway and Posen, plus it assists the Rogers City Senior Center. The other county ballot proposal is the separate tax limitations. This proposal asks voters to renew 7 mills, which provides operating funding to the county, townships and the intermediate school district (ISD).

THE COUNTY will receive 5.74 mills, the townships one mill each, while the ISD?s allocation will be .26 mill. It would be in place from Jan. 1, 2011 to Dec. 31, 2014. Voters in District 4, which consists of Metz, Belknap and Pulawski Township, along with portions of Posen and Rogers Townships, and the city of Rogers City, will decide between incumbent Republican chairman Carl Altman and Allan Berg, the Belknap Township supervisor.

Those residing in District 1 (Bearinger, North Allis and Allis Townships, and the city of Onaway) will choose between incumbent Democrat Bob Schell, Wayne Vermilya and write-in Patricia Augustine. There?s only one candidate for Circuit Judge and that?s incumbent Scott Pavlich. His tem is for six years. There also are elections in the Village of Posen and various townships. Polls throughout the county will open at 7 a.m. and remain open until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
