SO CLOSE!

The amazing run of the Onaway softball team came to an end in the Division IV championship game Saturday in Battle Creek. They lost 2-1 to Petersburg-Summerfield (PS). After a thrilling come-from-behind win (2-1) Friday in the state semifinal against defending state champ, Unionville-Sebewaing, the Cards ran into pitcher Emily Puterbaugh, who kept the girls off balance with a steady diet of junk pitches.

She struck out 17 and allowed only two hits. One of the hits was a solo homer by freshman catcher Sam Brasseur in the fourth. Kourtni Hyde?s double to center was a few feet from the fence and a possible tie game, but she was left stranded at second as PS celebrated a state title. Onaway finished the season with a 36-1 record.

Much more on the incredible Lady Cardinals will be in this week?s edition of the Onaway Outlook.
