Fourth annual bike tour coming to town this weekend

The 4th Annual Sunrise Adventure Bicycle Tour sponsored by the League of Michigan Bicyclists returns on June 17 as bicyclists from around the state and beyond come to Rogers City to ride the roadways of Presque Isle County. The three-day event starts on Friday, June 18 and runs through Sunday, June 20. The Lakeside Park Pavilion in downtown Rogers City will be the hub site where cyclists will gather Friday and Saturday morning to start their day?s ride traversing throughout Presque Isle County.

On day one, cyclists will head north and west through Metz, Hawks, Millersburg, Ocqueoc and then return to Rogers City on the Huron Sunrise bike trail along the pristine shores of Lake Huron. Riders will see the uninterrupted beauty that many find unique in todays over developed world. They will visit the 40-Mile Point Lighthouse where many can stop and take in the climb to the top of the light tower and view the wreck of the Faye just off shore. The routes are creatively planned; and encompass many historical, cultural, and natural points of interest.

On Saturday, riders head south through Belknap, Posen and Grand Lake. First thing in the morning, riders will be treated to a home cooked full breakfast by the Ladies Aid of the St. Michael Church in Belknap, and then proceed to Posen and Presque Isle Harbor to see the Wooden Boat Show and visit the two lighthouses. A special ?scavenger hunt? just like in the style of ?The Amazing Race? finding clues along the way is planned for Saturday were riders have an opportunity to match names to specific sites along the route and enter the chance to win prizes.

Sunday?s ride begins in Onaway with a new route around beautiful Black Lake. Sunday morning, riders will be treated to a breakfast in the Civilian Conservation Corps built pavilion at the Onaway State Park catered by The Millersburg Inn. The routes are planned to take the bicyclists throughout Presque Isle County?s paved ro

ads, which are favorite rides for many bicyclists.

Breakfasts and dinners are included in the tour. Friday evening, the dinner will be held at the Rogers City Senior Center with proceeds benefiting the Rogers City Area Chamber of Commerce. Saturday evening?s dinner is catered by Manzana?s of Onaway. Local and regional area residents are encouraged to participate in the rides for a daily fee of $35 this includes route maps, meals, and SAG support (Support Aid Group) providing assistance along the way. Bicyclists can participate in a 20, 40 and 60-mile route each day taking in the sites at your own pace.
