A trio of Posen baseball seniors were honored with some pretty impressive postseason awards, and not just for what the young men did on the field in 2010. Outfielder Luke Bruski, who closed out his high school career with a 4.00 grade point average, was named academic all-state for the second consecutive year. He also was an honorable mention in the North Star League (NSL). He was second on the team with eight steals, batted .285 and knocked in 13. Bruski also was one of five players to park one over the fence this past season.

SECOND BASEMAN Justin LaPointe was an all-region selection as an infielder. His .454 batting average led one of almost every offensive category, and nobody on the club looked more

comfortable at the plate. He had 40 hits, which no other Viking was close to, ripped nine doubles and three triples. He stole 10 bases, scored 44 runs and had 21 RBI. Additionally, LaPointe was first team all-conference and all-district.

Utility man Scott Couture, who could be found anywhere on the diamond during the recent 19-13-1 campaign, also shined in the classroom. He was an academic all-region selection, as well as the high school?s male athlete of the year. Couture batted .225, with 28 hits, 18 RBI and six doubles. He was a first team all-conference player and also made the all-district squad.

MAKING ALL-DISTRICT and first team all-conference was junior pitcher/shortstop Shane Hentkowski. His district selection was as a pitcher. He led the Vikes with 91 K?s and finished with a 1.37 ERA. At the plate, he was second on the team with eight doubles and smacked two homers. He finished with a .309 average. Fellow junior Travis Hirschman was an academic all-district selection. Sophomore pitcher/shortstop Jerome Ciarkowski (6-4, 55 K, 3.03)/ (.290, 24 R, 5 SB) was a NSL honorable mention.
