Nave and Olree to lead class of 2010

Onaway High School (OHS) is proud to announce the honor students of the Class of 2010. Co-valedictorians Allie Jo Nave and Nicolette Brooke Olree, salutatorian Lynsey Frances Lyle and honor student Danielle Reece will lead their clas in commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 30 at 2 p.m.

Nave (3.9898) is the daughter of Matt and Laurie Nave. She is a member the National Honor Society (NHS), the orange team, was a member of the homecoming court twice and was homecoming queen as a senior. Nave participated in band and student council as a freshman. Nave has participated in volleyball, cross country, basketball, softball and track for the Cardinals. She is a youth basketball and softball volunteer and is a Bible school camp counselor. Following her graduation from OHS this May, Nave plans to attend Alma College to pursue a degree in the health field as she takes pre-medical classes.

Olree (3.9898) is the daughter of Dr. Doug and Dr. Shelley Olree. She is a member of the student council, ski club, orange team, NHS, Key Club, drama club and is a class officer. She was a member of the art club as a freshman and was on the homecoming court twice. Olree participated in basketball and volleyball for the Cardinals. She was Miss Onaway 2009, participates in 4-H mentoring, is a youth advisory council member for the Cardinal Health Center and enjoys golf. After graduation Olree plans to attend North Central Michigan College before transferring to New York Chiropractic College.

Lyle (3.9559) is the daughter of Robert and Michele Lyle. She is a member of the student council, the ski club, orange team, NHS, band, jazz band and is a class officer. She has been a member of the homecoming court twice and played softball for the Cardinals as a freshman. Lyle is employed at Rosa?s Restaurant as a hostess, enjoys swimming, playing guitar and traveling. After graduation Lyle plans to attend the University of Michigan to study movement science and athletic training to become a physical therapist.

Reece (3.922) is the daughter of Don Reece and Karen Reece. She is a member of the NHS, orange team and student council. She was a member of the drama club and was on the homecoming court. Reece has participated in basketball and softball for the Cardinals. She is a peer mentor, a teacher assistant and works at Toby?s Inc. in Hawks. After graduation Reece plans to attend Central Wyoming College for two years then finish her education at a university to earn a degree in teaching secondary mathematics.

Kyle Anthony Reneau (3.9017) is the son of Paul and Denise Reneau. He is a member of the band, the Key Club, orange team, ski club and powerlifting. He was a class officer as a freshman, played basketball as a freshman, played two years of football, was in the homecoming court and has participated in track for the Cardinals. Reneau also enjoys boating, four-wheeling, snowmobiling and mountain biking. Reneau plans to attend Texas A & M Galveston in the fall to study marine transportation and receive his third mate license from the United States Coast Guard.

Kourtni Hyde (3.8034) is the daughter of Kory and Becky Hyde. She is a member of the band, Key Club, NHS, student council, ski club, orange team and is a class officer. She was a member of the homecoming court as a junior and has participated in basketball, cross country, volleyball, softball and track for the Cardinals. Hyde is also a member of 4-H mentoring. Hyde plans to attend Michigan State University to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine this fall.

Kristen Maiani (3.7932) is the daughter of Pete Maiani and Donna O?Neil. She is a member of the NHS and band. She was also a member of the art club and was a class officer and is a member of her church youth group. Maiani is undecided on where she will go to college but plans to attend college and pursue a degree as a registered nurse.

Chasity Wood (3.7763) is the daughter of Ernie and Teresa Wood. She is a member of the Key Club, knowledge bowl, NHS and ski club. She participated in volleyball for the Cardinals. Wood plans to attend North Central Michigan College then transfer to Oakland University to study radiology as an x-ray technician.

Timory Wilcox (3.6881) is the daughter of Loren and April Wilcox. She is a member of the band, NHS, orange team, the student council and is a class officer. She was a cheerleader and a member of the basketball and volleyball team for the Cardinals. Wilcox was a member of the homecoming court as a freshman and as a senior. She is a people-to-people student ambassador, is a member of the adopt-a-highway program and works at Dairy Queen. Wilcox will attend Central Michigan University in the fall to become a physician?s assistant.

Stephanie Lynn Kortman (3.6492) is the daughter of Jeffery and Julie Kortman. She is a member of NHS and the ski club. Kortman was in the OHS band her freshman and sophomore years. She is active in Millersburg United Methodist Church and helps with bake sales and bottle drives for the Millersburg summer recreation program. Following graduation from OHS, Kortman plans to attend Alpena Community College.

Billy McDowell (3.5153) is the son of Theresa and Andy Kroll. He is a member of the Key Club, orange team and has participated in baseball, cross country and track for the Cardinals. He is also a member of the National Guard. McDowell will go to basic training in Missouri beginning on August 2 and plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University in the future.

Renee Jill Schlak (3.4966) is the daughter of Ervin and Wanda Schlak. She is a member of the Key Club, knowledge bowl, NHS, orange team and the ski club. She was on the homecoming court as a junior. She has also been a member of Thunder Bay Martial Arts for seven years and has a junior degree black belt. Schlak plans to attend Lake Superior State University in the fall to earn a degree in conservation biology and zoology.

Shelly Lunceford (3.4929) is the daughter of Glendon and Rita Lunceford. She is a member of the drama club and participated in basketball her freshman year and softball in her freshman and sophomore years. She was also in Bella Voce choir at Petoskey High School for three years and has been playing the piano since first grade. Lunceford plans to attend Alpena Community College in the fall before transferring. She wants to become a first grade teacher in the future.

Massie Huffman (3.4787) is the daughter of Stanley and Lucille Huffman. She is a member of the band and the orange team. She has participated in cheerleading, softball, track and wrestling for the Cardinals. She is also in her church youth group. After graduation Huffman plans to go to college to work towards a career in the arts.

Stephanie Ellsworth (3.422) is the daughter of Mary and Larry Ellsworth. She is a member of the orange team and has participated in band and track for the Cardinals. She also was a people-to-people student ambassador and works at Dairy Queen. Ellsworth plans to attend North Central Michigan College to study criminal justice.

Payton Lupu (3.4051) is the daughter of Tom and Theresa Lupu. She is a member of the band, Key Club, NHS and orange team. She has participated in cross country, softball, track, volleyball and basketball for the Cardinals. She is also a member of the Junior Girls Auxiliary and attended teen days and youth tour 2009. Lupu will attend Alma College in the fall to study exercise and health sciences for four years before attending Central Michigan University to study in its physical therapy program.

Lain Veihl (3.3912) is the son of Kaarina Veihl and Greg Veihl. He is a member of the drama club, NHS, and the outdoor recreation club. He has participated in cross country and track for the Cards. He is also an acolyte at his church and is a youth mentor. Veihl plans to run for Kirtland Community College for two years before transferring to Lake Superior State University to obtain a degree in criminal justice.

Heather Hoffmeyer (3.3847) is the daughter of Tony and Sandi Hoffmeyer. She is a member of the drama club, NHS, orange team, student council and is a mat maid. She was on the homecoming court as a sophomore and a senior. She has participated in softball, track and volleyball for the Cardinals. She also has been in powerlifting all four years of high school. Hoffmeyer plans to attend Michigan State University to pursue a career in journalism.

Collin Hoffmeyer (3.3825) is the son of Allan and Barb Hoffmeyer. He is a member of the drama club, educational talent search, Key Club and the NHS. He has participated in cross country, baseball, football, track and wrestling for the Cardinals. He was a member of the homecoming court as a freshman and as a senior. He is also employed at Tom?s Family Market. Hoffmeyer plans to attend North Central Michigan College before transferring to Northern Michigan University where he plans to obtain a degree in radiology.

Stephanie M. Knight (3.3068) is the daughter of Mark Knight and Samantha Johnson She is a member of the NHS, dual enrollment and has been involved with the Key Club. She has held two jobs throughout high school as she was a babysitter and a stock girl. Knight plans to attend Baker College of Clinton Township to study early childhood or elementary education.

Amanda Marie Pomranke (3.2305) is the daughter of Mark and Shari Pomranke. She is a member of NHS and the orange team. She was in the homecoming court as a freshman and was crowned queen. She has participated in basketball, volleyball and softball for the Cardinals. She has also played three years of Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) volleyball and two years of travel softball. Pomranke plans to play volleyball and study at St. Claire County Community College in the fall.

Amanda Buckner (3.1895) is the daughter of Doyle Buckner and Melody Buckner. She has participated in band and volleyball while at OHS. She also has been job shadowing at the Cheboygan Humane Society. She plans to attend Baker University to study veterinary technology in the fall.

Lindsay Self (3.1492) is the daughter of John Wilson and Frances Wilson. She was on the homecoming court as a sophomore and as a senior, she was in ski club as a freshman, participated in four years of volleyball and two years of track. Self plans to attend Alpena Community College in the fall to study and play volleyball. Self is unsure of her major but will further her education at a university.

Cameron Penny (3.1385) is the son of Amy and Dan Penny. He is a member of the drama club, Key Club, knowledge bowl, orange team, ski club and student council. Penny participated in football and track as a freshman and a sophomore. Penny works at Black River Party Store and assists with early morning recycling at the school. He also participates in dual enrollment courses and has been the student representative to the board of education. Penny plans to attend Lake Superior State University this fall to study either medicine or engineering.

Logan Wilkinson (3.1368) is the son of Cindy Wilkinson. He is a member of knowledge bowl, NHS and orange team. Wilkinson has participated in track, football, basketball and baseball for the Cardinals. Wilkinson plans to study engineering after graduation from OHS but he is unsure of where he will attend college.

Michelle LaFave (3.1051) is the daughter of Roger LaFave and Marsha Palazzolo. She is a member of educational talent search, Key Club, ski club and was on the snowcoming court as a junior. She also played three years of softball for the Cardinals. LaFave plans to attend North Central Michigan College in the fall to work towards her associate?s degree in nursing.

Megan Frascone (3.0968) is the daughter of Kelli Anderson and Tom Frascone. She has participated in band, drama club, ski club and dual enrollment at OHS. She works at McDonald?s. Frascone plans to attend North Central Michigan College this fall before transferring to a university to major in criminal justice.

James Gray (3.0814) is the son of Heather and Wes Peters. He is involved in the Key Club and baseball at OHS. He is also a member of the Onaway Baptist Chape

l youth group and has participated in the Special Olympics summer and winter games. Gray plans to look for a job and possibly attend North Central Michigan College in the fall.

Robert (Beau) March (3.0763) is the son of Heidi March of Onaway and Robert March of Harbor Springs. He has participated in basketball, cross country, football, Key Club, NHS, orange team, ski club, track and wrestling at OHS. March was also on the homecoming court as a junior. March is also a mentor for 4-H and is a summer school tutor. March plans to attend Alpena Community College in the fall to become a journeyman linesman.

Thomas J. Hext (3.0017) is the son of Tom and Michelle Hext. He has participated in band, football, NHS, orange team, ski club, ice hockey and golf and was on the homecoming court as a sophomore. Hext plans to attend Northwood University to major in accounting this fall. After graduating from Northwood Hext plans to attend law school.
