Golf team battles windy conditions

The high school golf season got underway with a pair of recent meets. On Saturday Rogers City placed 12th out of 15 schools in conditions far from ideal for golf. Temperatures only made it up to the mid-30s, and snow flurries were in the air. ?We played in conditions that would keep you at home instead of on the course another day. It’s no excuse though, the weather, since there were some low scores shot and everyone played in it. It seemed that we were hitting the ball well but we couldn’t catch any breaks,? said coach Dave Haselhuhn.

Scores were: Zach Munn-88, Alec Brietzke-114, Craig Nadolsky-104, Wade Wilk-115, Nick Kamyszek-122 and Frank Smolinski-122 for a team score of 421. ?On that course if you don’t hit the ball straight you can get into trouble in a hurry since it is a much tighter course then Rogers City. I hope the boys remember some shortcuts on this course since our districts will be held there in late May.?

Low man for the tournament was Paul Bardenhagen of Lake Leelanaw St. Mary with a 74. Team scores were Lake Leelanaw St. Mary?326, Glen Lake-335, St. Ignace?337, Tawas City?338, Suttons Bay-345, Cheboygan?357, Harbor Springs? 387, East Jordan-393, Boyne City-408, Alcona?410, Inland Lakes-420, Rogers City?421, Newberry?436, Harbor Light Christian- 454 and Alanson-454.
