Two RCHS bowlers make history during regular league

Senior Tony Bannasch became just the second high school-aged boy to bowl an 800 series during after school league at Nautical Lanes on Feb. 9. Bannasch rolled scores of 266, 255 and 289 to roll an 810 series. Ben Darga rolled an 807 series in March of 2001 and is the only other high school-aged male to bowl over 800 in league action. The city record for men?s high series is 836 and Bannasch?s score would be tied for sixth on that record board had it been during a men?s league.

?It was exciting, everyone was excited watching,? said Bannasch. Grandmother Luanne Bannasch couldn?t handle the moment as she escaped to the Lighthouse Restaurant because she could not watch her grandson make

history, she was nervous for him. Bannasch admits it would have been nice to roll that series during competition for the Hurons but hopes that he can still do that as regionals and the state finals draws closer for the bowling teams.

NOT TO BE OUTDONE, junior Katie Darga rolled a 707 series on Jan. 19, her second 700 series in her career. She rolled games of 225, 257 and 225 to earn the 700 series. Darga also hopes that she can pull a 700 series out of her hat when her team travels for post-season competition. ?I was excited, but it was my second one; so I was just thinking I did it again,? said Darga.

Darga?s 707 series is the tops in high school league action at Nautical Lanes as the second highest Luanne Bannasch could find was a 660 series. Senior Tom Darga also rolled a 758 series on Feb. 9 as well with scores of 289, 202 and 267.
