A hard-pressing Huron basketball team notched a 77-59 win over Posen Tuesday. Disappointed with his team?s effort in last Friday?s 76-29 loss in Cheboygan, Huron coach Jesse Streich had his team thinking win in their home gym. ?After last Friday, I think it was a wake up call to everybody,? Streich said after the game. ?We need to come to play every single game. We didn?t come to play in Cheboygan at all. A lot of it was effort. We just didn?t come ready to play. They didn?t want to be embarrassed again so we came out and fought hard tonight.?

Rogers City bolted out to a 10-2 after an Evan Wagner drive to lead 10-2 before Posen mounted a charge. David Kerr, who led Posen with 19 points, hit a basket and a free throw, then added two more free throws to cut into the lead. Two baskets by Scott Couture and an inside banker by Jake Delekta gave Posen a 17-16 lead with 41 seconds left in the first quarter. That would be Posen?s only lead of the night as Tim Bobers bucket of an out-of-bounds play gave Rogers City a 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Posen, who suited up eight players, hung with the Hurons as Rogers City kept up constant pressure. A triple by Huron senior guard Chris Vogelheim and a Vogelheim layup, off a Meharg steal, brought the lead to 21 at 49-28 with five minutes left in the third quarter.

?The short bench has been a concern for us all year, but I am proud of the effort our team gave,? said Posen coach Steve Hentkowski. The teams traded hoops the rest of the third as the Huron lead was 62-38 heading into the fourth quarter. POSEN CUT the lead to 65-48, powered by two three-pointers by Shane Hentkowski to start the fourth quarter. But Posen couldn?t get any closer than that as the Hurons maintained a 20-point margin the rest of the way.
