Streetlight project nearing completion

by Angie Asam– Staff Writer

Cordes Excavating and sub-contractor Thunder Bay Electric crews have been working diligently on the streetlight project for nearly a month. They have finished all the concrete work, have the underground work completed and will be installing the lights as early as Dec. 14. Thunder Bay Electric has been in town this week working on the electrical boxes that will be located by the street trees allowing the city to string lights on the trees in the future. They were to be done with that work Tuesday afternoon. The light fixtures will be arriving in Rogers City on Dec. 11 while the bases and poles will be here Dec. 14, installation will then start and continue that week. The lights should be installed by Christmas.

Cleanup is in progress along the street and the orange barrels will be put over the new light locations until they are installed to prevent anyone from being hurt on them. The project is coming in under budget and three different styles of banners have arrived. One style is snowflakes with Rogers City printed across the top, the second is a winter scene with ?historic main street? printed on it and the third a snowman with welcome.

City manager Mark Slown is confident the lights will be up for Christmas and has appreciated the merchants and business owners who have been patient throughout the process. Anyone with concerns or questions on the project is encouraged to call Slown at (989) 734-2191.
