New meeting date as Posen board ponders likely budget adjustments

by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor

Members of the Posen Consolidated School Board of Education have rescheduled their regular board meeting for a week earlier to accommodate busy schedules during the holidays. They also will be looking at possibly making some budget adjustments brought on by the state fiscal crisis.

The meeting begins Monday night at 6:30. ?First, it was changed due to the holiday break, but more importantly we will be discussing and possibly announcing some cuts,? said superintendent Dru Milliron. The state took away ab

out $43,000 from the district, or $165 per pupil reduction. Gov. Jennifer Granholm?s office had been considering an additional $127 per pupil cut, but Milliron said he had not heard any additional news about further cuts. They know $165 per pupil is reality and has to be dealt with.

The finance committee, which consists of Andy Stone, Jesse Chappa and Randy Styma, is looking at meeting before Monday. The finance committee and employees of the district met Nov. 11 and came up with a list of 30 short- and long-term ideas to possibly implement. Nearly all of the employees attended the committee meeting.

Milliron said, ?all areas are being looked at.? Milliron said the community?s input will be welcome and encouraged. ?I think it is important for them to hear it from us and see where we stand.? The district has 249 students.
