Serving up turkey day blessings and bull

Before the local student athletes take over this platform to tell you what they are thankful for this year, here?s a few off the wall things from my list. ?I?m sure glad my pocketbook concerns outweighed my drive to go back to Spartan Stadium to see the Penn State debacle. That hasn?t diminished thoughts of going to an Michigan State University (MSU) basketball or hockey game. There are some great deals for hockey games. Check out the Web site MSUspartans.com.

I certain teenager under my roof has been promised a ticket to either the Breslin Center or Munn Ice Arena, if he gets his algebra grade up a couple of notches. I see him working real hard the last couple of weeks. For that, I?m thankful. ?I?m thankful for a few days of elation as a Lion fan before Green Bay comes into Ford Field and thumps us on Thanksgiving Day. The Pack shut the Lions out the first time around. Plus, Detroit will be without ?the kid,? Matthew Stafford. ?I would be thankful if the Tigers pick up a productive left-handed bat to plug into that lineup.

Now, lets hear what the young people of the community are thankful for: Travis Fleis, Rogers City wrestling (RCW): ?I?m thankful for my family and my team this year, and the chances we have to make it downstate and bring home a state championship.? Emily Kroll, Posen girls? basketball (PGBB): ?I?m thankful that we have such great sports programs.? Pat Quaine, Rogers City boys? basketball (RCBBB): ?I?m thankful for the food, sports and all the fans.?

Devin Pommerenke, RCW: ?I?m thankful for having a great team this year, and all the improvements the guys have made, so we can put a team in the state finals.? His brother Caleb Pommerenke, RCW: ?I?m thankful for the good food I cannot eat on Thanksgiving, because we have a meet on Dec. 2.? Ben Tulgestke, RCBBB: ?I?m thankful for the team we have this year and all my friends and family.?

Janice Ciarkowski, PGBB: ?Can I say venison again,? she asks. ?Did you say that one before?? I asked. ?Yeah, that was when I was a sophomore,? she replied. ?I?m thankful for our busing that?s provided for our sports teams and my family.? Janice had o

ne more request, ?are you sure you can?t keep us longer from practice.? Sorry, no more questions.

Jordan Bellmore, RCBBB: ?I?m thankful for the coaches who dedicate their time and effort to make us better players.? Julia Lewandowski, PGBB: ?I?m thankful for the family I have visiting this weekend.? Chris Vogelheim, RCBBB: ?I?m thankful for the good fans, awesome fans.? Lindsay Bartz, PGBB: ?My awesome basketball team.? Evan Lamb, RCW: ?I?m thankful that Angie Asam is covering wrestling this year and not Pete Jakey.? Very well, your cousin can keep the beat for now. She?s been doing a really good job.

Cheryl Romel, PGBB: ?I?m thankful for family and friends.? Her teammate LeAnn Strzelecki had the same thoughts. A special thanks to Angie Asam for helping out with this week?s column.
