Three Hurons participate in Track state finals

Senior Kaylee Kreft and juniors Brandon Haneckow and Heather Luetzow traveled to Forest Hills Eastern High School in Grand Rapids Saturday to participate in the track and field state finals and all of them finished 20th in their respective events. ?I am really proud of the kids. They did well and had a good season. It is an accomplishment just to qualify to go to the state finals. I am really proud of all of them,? said coach Amanda Munger.

Kreft ran a 12:15 in the two-mile run to finish in 20th, the event was won by Nikki Wurster of Homer in 11:28.61. Kreft was just seven seconds shy of finishing in the top eight and earning a medal for all-state. ?Kaylee will be missed next season. She will definitely leave a void that will need to be filled in the distance events next season,? said coach Munger.

Luetzow would run a personal best time in the 400-meter dash as she finished in 1:03 to place 20th. Lindsey Hufnagel of Fowler won the event as she finished in 58.03. Luetzow would have had to beat 1:01.03 to place in the event.

Haneckow finished 20th in the high jump as he cleared 5? 9? in the high jump. Kurt Schneider of Auburn Hills Oakland Christian cleared 6? 10 _? to set a new meet record and win the event. The eighth place finisher cleared 6? 2? to earn a medal and finish all-state. ?We will be looking forward to next season with Brandon (Haneckow) and Heather (Luetzow) as they will be returning to the team next year,? said coach Munger.
