City Band to begin summer of music in Lakeside Park

A summer of music at the lakeside begins Thursday with the first concert of the City Band. Under the direction of Ben Witter, a teacher at Rogers City schools, the 45-member band will perform songs from the 1980s, a favorite polka number, and a selection from Duke Ellington, among others.

The City Band performs each Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Lakeside Park Performance Shell at the harbor in Rogers City. Its last concert of the season will be the Tuesday of Nautical City Festival week. Other concerts planned for Lakeside Park include the June 13 event featuring the Huron Shores Chorus, Gemini Moon, an acoustic group featuring local performer Donna Klein on June 19, and Reasonable Facsimile on June 26.

Chasin? Steel, a bluegrass band, performs July 5, Messenger and ONLY9AM are Christian groups set for July 19, and the popular Petoskey Steel Drum Band will come to the park July 17. The rest of the concert season features Last One Out, a classic hit group, on July 24, Wind, Strings and Ivory (performing at the Rogers City Theater) on August 1, and the southern rock group Tin Horse on August 14.
