by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor

The final push to complete renovations of Tower Park will be Saturday, May 16, starting at 8 a.m. A work bee is planned to complete the park for a ?celebration of renovation? to take place June 5 at 6 p.m.

A special alumnus of the field will be asked to throw out the first pitch, with an old timers game to follow.

First the work needs to be completed on the new concession building behind the home plate backstop, new playground equipment needs to be installed, the beach has to be cleaned and new horseshoe pits set up.

?We?re going to be finishing up the siding on the concession stand, putting up fascia, soffits and finishing up the pump house,? said Jason Larson, who has been spearheading the project since 2008.

The concession stand also will have memory bricks placed in the sidewalk around the building.

A PICTURE COLLAGE of activities in the park, Little League or softball games, is being put together and will be on display at the concession stand building. Photos are being sought, said Larson, who can be contacted at 733-5085. ?A

ll help will be appreciated,? he added.

Larson is hoping to get about 20 old timers involved in the old timers game. ?Kind of the guys I grew up watching, when my dad was playing: the Morrell boys, Brewbakers, the Hyde boys, the Waldies.?

Lights are going to be installed at the field for the first time and the new coed softball league will take the field every Friday night. Larson said at least one Friday night game will be have to be played in Afton until the lights go in.

There are six teams signed up for the inaugural season. The women?s league will continue play Wednesday nights.

Hundreds of hours of volunteer labor already have been put in, and with the final push next weekend, the park once again will be the community?s centerpiece.
