Next stop for state qualifiers: Grand Rapids

There was one last warm-up for the Posen track athletes headed for state, as they participated in the annual Alpena News Honor Roll track meet Tuesday at Lincoln Alcona High School. Corey Hentkowski, who is the lone state qualifier from the Viking boys? team, set a new personal record in the long jump (20? 7 ??) and was first in the 100-meter dash to claim co-male athlete of the meet honors. He also set a P.R. in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.96 seconds. The 400-meter relay team of David Kerr, Lucas Litwinski, Jacob Boyke and Hentkowski took fifth (49.64 seconds).

The girls had three first-place finishes. Not surprising, the state-bound team of Victoria Wozniak, Tina Mulka, Julia Lewandowski and Nicole Purol set new P.R.?s in the 400- (55.35) and 800-meter (1:56.02) relays.

Purol finished first in the 200-meter dash (28.20), the event she?ll be competing in at the Division IV state finals at Forest Hills Eastern High School in Grand Rapids. Natasha Finley was third in the discus (87? 6 ?) and shot put (28? 11 ??). The 3200-meter relay team of Bonnie Schmitz, Emily Kroll, Lindsey Bartz and Mulka placed fourth (13:15.77). Mulka also set a P.R. in the shot put (26? 11 ??).
