Hurons track teams run at conference meet

The Huron track team traveled to Sault Ste. Marie Tuesday for the Straits Area Conference meet. The girls? team would finish fourth on the day while the boys team placed sixth. Sophomore Leilani Kortman placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.10 and was also third in the long jump at 13? 3?.

Freshman Sierra Centala was fourth in the mile with a time of 6:20.75 and junior Heather Luetzow was fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.94. Senior Anna Wickersham was fourth in the high jump at 4? 6?. Wickersham was also fifth in the discus (78? 11?) and sixth in the shot put (25? 3 ??). Kortman was sixth in the 300-meter hurdl

es at 56.83. Rogers City finished the meet with 32 points. Cheboygan won the meet with 179 points followed by the Sault with 152.5 and St. Ignace with 101.

Junior Evan Wagner was second in the high jump at 5? 10? while teammate junior Brandon Haneckow was fourth at 5? 8?. Senior Justin LaLonde was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles at 48.6 while senior Zak McLennan was fourth in the mile at 5:00.45. Senior Aaron Wilbert was fifth in the two-mile with a time of 11:50.54. Sault Ste. Marie won the meet with 148 points followed by Cheboygan with 135, Newberry with 82, St. Ignace with 81 and Rudyard with 61.

Luetzow, Haneckow and Kaylee Kreft will now prepare for the state finals to be held in Grand Rapids at Forest Hills Northern High School on May 30. The rest of the team will await invitations to the Alpena News meet.
