Fire destroys home in Posen

by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor

A Posen woman lost everything in an afternoon fire that destroyed her home along West Long Lake Highway. Firefighters from three departments were summoned to put out the one-story building owned by Linda Roznowski. It is located three miles south of Posen. The 9-1-1 call was received at Presque Isle County central dispatch at 3:18 p.m. by Roznowski, who said the back porch of her home was on fire. Smoke billowed across an adjacent field as crews worked to keep the fire from jumping and causing more damage. Flames were coming from the eaves when the first Posen Fire Department (PFD) firefighters arrived on the scene. Additional manpower was needed, so mutual aid was requested from the Long Rapids and Rogers City Fire Departments and played a key role in fighting the blaze.

By the time the fire was brought under control and all the flames had been knocked down, a portion of the roof had collapsed and fire had ravaged most of the contents. ?It looks to be accident, but it is still under investigation,? said captain Terry Buczkowski. The origin is the rear portion of the house, but the exact cause is still unknown, said Buczkowski.

Buczkowski said more than 13,000 gallons of water was poured on the building. Some of the water was drafted from a pond at Netta?s.
