Festival schedule nearly completed; mugs available

The Nautical City Festival has its schedule of events nearly completed, according to NFC chairman Dennis Downie, with a few new twists coming this year. The first sign of the summer festival is the production of the collector?s mug. This year the mug features the Carl D. Bradley drawings of the vessel and the bell from the ship. Those are on sale at various locations in Rogers City including the Rogers City Area Chamber of Commerce.

SO FAR, MOST of the events from the Miss Rogers City Pageant July 31 through festival Saturday on August 8 have been finalized with a few events from Sunday not yet confirmed.

Pennie Kelly, who returned to head the event after resigning at last year?s pageant, will direct the queen?s pageant. That will take place at the Rogers City High School, due to the anticipated number of contestants expected to compete. Last year?s Miss Rogers City, Jordyn Lamb, was crowned in the Rogers City Theater, the first time the event had been staged there.

Festival Tuesday will be highlighted by the Great Galley Night dinner at the festival tent, the Sailors Memorial, a concert by the City Band, and music in the festival tent by ?Fabulous Oldies by Goodies?.

The teen dance with music by 107.7 The Bay?s Darrel Kelly will be the main event in the festival tent on festival Wednesday. Other events include sidewalk art with the newly crowned Miss Rogers City and her court, a kiddie parade and picnic in the evening. Events for festival Thursday include a spaghetti dinner at the Rogers City Seniors Center and the country rock band ?Night Wing? at the festival tent. More on the schedule of events is in this week?s edition of the Advance.
