Negotiations begin with only internal superintendent candidate
by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor
It is no secret. The chips are all on the table in regard to who the next superintendent of the Rogers City Area Schools is going to be. Jamie Huber who is handling the K-12 principal duties in the district, is the only internal candidate being considered and has had the inside track since turning in the only application for the job a couple of months ago.
?We have no objections to hiring Mr. Huber as our superintendent,? said board member Armand Loiselle at Monday?s regular board meeting, ?and whatever principalship he?s happy with.?
It seems to be only a matter of time before he?s got the job, and during last month?s interview before the board of education, Huber said he would be more comfortable with the superintendent/6-12 principal job.
SOME DISTRICTS have gone to a superintendent/K-12 principal role, as they?ve done in Atlanta, Huber?s last place of employment before coming to Rogers City. The dust still hasn?t settled regarding that situation, as federal money from the stimulus package could be available to hire Title One and special education staff and president Mike Marx is looking at possibly tying in a position with the K-5 principal?s job.
Last month, the board decided to check Huber?s references, which they are satisfied with, and now a motion has been made authorizing Marx to begin negotiating a new contract for the superintendent?s position with a principalship to be decided at a later time.
Marx is looking at an official start up date of July 1. IN OTHER business:
