Arrests are made in string of breaking and enterings

Presque Isle County sheriff Bob Paschke is reporting a major break in a string of breaking and enterings (B & E?s) which are believed to have started back in September.

In a press release from the sheriff?s office, a simple tip was developed last Friday afternoon, helping officers solve more than a dozen B & E?s in western Presque Isle County and eastern Cheboygan County.

?We received information about a possible suspect last Friday afternoon,? said Sgt. John Kasuba. ?We developed suspect information and leads over the weekend, and on Monday made contact with one of the suspects.?

Two search warrants were executed simultaneously in the Tower area, where more than $10,000 in stolen property was recovered. Kasuba said two males, 22 and 18, were taken into custody and lodged in the Presque Isle County jail.

The suspects are believed to be involved in B & E?s in the Black Lake, Bonz Beach Highway, Porter Road and Twin School Highway areas. Among the items recovered were guns and a stolen snowmobile.

Kasuba wouldn?t elaborate on the tip but said the arrests were made possible ?through old fashioned police work, interviews and pounding the pavement.? Cheboygan County sheriff?s deputies and the Michigan State Police assisted in apprehending the suspects.
