Huron girls remain top of the conference

The Huron bowling teams continued their Northern Michigan Bowling Conference season Saturday in Alpena.

In their first match of the day against Cheboygan, the girls? team would take the first baker game 178-135 and the second 165-148 to take the totals 343-283 and take a 10-0 lead.

The Hurons would build on that lead by taking the first regular game 870-734 as well as three of the five individual points giving them a 17-2 edge. Game two would go much the same as the first as the Hurons won 816-762 and took the totals 1,686-1,496. The final score of the match would be 26-4.

Up against Gaylord in their second match of the day, the Hurons continued their dominance between the gutters taking the match by a final score of 29-1. Rogers City took baker game one 150-110, game two 178-120 and totals 328-230. In the regular games the Hurons would win 807-484, 757-556 and take the totals 1,564-1,040. ?The girls continue to bowl very well. Saturday we had six games over 200. Hopefully the girls can continue the great bowling,? said coach Brian Bannasch.

Bowlers and their scores for the day were; Liz Atkins (109, 149), Tayler Bannasch (169, 183, 212, 147), Ashley Bellmore (172, 161, 201), Brogan Brege (217, 92, 117, 106), Katie Darga (163, 161, 203) and Kaelie Florip (149, 219, 166, 154).

The girls? team is now 6-0 in the conference and has the highest team series (1,686), baker series (343) and baker game (191).

Tayler Bannasch is second in the conference for average at 174.6 followed closely by Katie Darga at 171.56 and Florip (168.5).

THE BOYS? TEAM took on Gaylord Blue in their first match of the day and came up short losing 13-17. The Hurons took baker game one 164-130 and game two 221-155 to take the totals 385-285 to take an early 10-0 lead.

Rogers City would drop the first regular game 960-1,034 and win only one individual point making the score 11-8 in favor of the Hurons going into the final game of the match.

Gaylord would take game two 937-889 and Rogers City would muster only two individual points. Gaylord took the totals 1,971-1,826 to win the match in come-from-behind fashion.

?This was a disappointing weekend for the boys? team. We continue to make simple mistakes that are costing us matches,? said coach Brian Bannasch. In their second match of the day against Alpena the Hurons would take baker game one 205-168, tie game two at 187 and take totals 394-357.

The Hurons would lose the first regular game 935-938 before rallying back to win game two 1,054-888 and take the totals 1,989-1,826 to win the match by a score of 20-10. The third and final match of the day would again prove the Hurons victorious as they won 22-8 over Gaylord?s Gold team. The boys t

ook both baker games 181-164, 189-136 and totals 370-300. They would then take regular game one 987-872 before dropping game two 780-950 but took totals 1767-1722.

Bowlers and their scores for the day were; Lucas Bellmore (163, 211, 165), Tony Bannasch (171, 211, 279, 188), Robert Dietlin (214, 165, 220, 227, 232), Devon Ferris (198, 226, 171, 220), Alec Gajewski (214, 158, 191, 169, 182), Travis Smolinski (163, 182), Tom Darga 9177, 168, 160), Alex Lemmon (122), Ken Wirgau (148) and Aaron Smolinski (168).

The boys are now 9-2 in the conference and in second place behind Cheboygan?s Orange team.

The girls are back in action this weekend in St. Ignace beginning at 10 a.m. Both teams will be back in action February 14 at home beginning at 10 a.m. in the final match of the conference season.
