Chamber steps forward to run summer concert series

With the future of the summer concert series at the Lakeside Park bandshell up in the air, the Rogers City Area Chamber of Commerce has stepped forward to take over the series and to work to keep it alive in Rogers City.

The first and most important step for the Chamber is finding funding to get the bands here so that their music can be enjoyed. The city of Rogers City has in the past funded the program but has already established that this year their contribution will be less than the level it has been.

?We are hoping we can find sponsors/donors to bring the bands in and are shooting for six or seven concerts this summer,? said chamber executive director Dave Snow. It is possible and likely that the chamber will be asking major businesses in town to sponsor an evening at the bandshell.

?We didn?t want to see the program go by the wayside. It is a great program and people look forward to the concerts. People make Rogers City a destination when they choose to come to one of the concerts,? said Snow.

The chamber is looking at bringing back some of the popular bands from the previous summer concert series but right now everything depends on funding. The chamber is also going to ask for funds from the county as well as looking at the Communities First Foundation.
