The search for the next superintendent of Rogers City Area Schools had a positive turn of events at Monday’s meeting as the internal posting resulted in one candidate coming forward: principal Jamie Huber, who will be interviewed by the board of education at their next regular meeting February 9. Huber, who has served as secondary principal since October 2007, and has been serving as K-12 principal since November, meets all of the job criteria. Now, the board wants to interview him in a public forum to see if he’s the right person for the job.

“I am excited,” said board president Mike Marx. “He’s familiar with the district. I hope he does well (in the interview) and we’ll go on from there.” The deadline to submit an application and resume was Monday at 3 p.m. Marx doesn’t beleive the questions have to be as in depth, because of his “track record” as an employee of the district. From all accounts, he his well-liked and well-respected.

“THE KNOWLEDGE I have from filling in in both buildings, knowing the people and the students that I’ve got to know, K-12, it is an opportunity that I wanted to pursue,” said Huber, after Monday’s meeting.

“This is a different interview process,” said Marx. “I would like to make a

list of questions that we can ask Mr. Huber in a public forum. At that point there, if we need to go in a different direction, I have made contact with the Michigan Leadership Institute.”

Contact also has been made with Michigan Association of School Boards. The only other applicants, of which there were five, were all for the interim superintendent, a job currently being handled by former business manager Don Schaedig. Before coming to Rogers City, Huber served as K-12 princial on an as needed basis. He also has worked as a career coordinator, facility and transportation director and athletic director.

“I have an operations background,” said Huber. The job become available when former superintendent Dan Byrne resigned in December. Byrne plead guilty last month to possessing child pornography while an employee of the district. Byrne’s sentencing is February 9 in Circuit Court.
