“It was a good win for us,” said coach Karl Momrik after the smothering win that featured a 9-0 third quarter run. “Everybody that went in there, played really, really well tonight. We are really happy with the defensive performance, only allowing eights points in the second half. They did a great job.” The halftime score was 30-12.

Victoria Wozniak led all scorers with 14 points. LAST FRIDAY, Posen found itself in a deep hole as Hale built a 14-10 lead after one and a 19-point advantage in the second.

An 11-4 Viking run cut it to 12 before the break. “We thought we would have a good chance of coming back,” said Momrik. “I told the girls if we could cut it to a four- to six-point lead going into the fourth, I felt good about our chances”

They trimmed 11 points off Hale’s lead to trail by only one in the fourth quarter, 43-42. Momrik felt good abo

ut his club?s chances because he was rotating four guards into the game. In the end, Hale was too tired to stay with the Vikings down the stretch.

Janice Ciarkowski shot seven-of-nine from the free throw line in the fourth to end the night with 18. Lindsay Ponik threw in 11, while Wozniak added 10.

The J.V. won both of its games, including a 43-2 whitewash of Atlanta Tuesday night Paige Lewandowski had 16 points. Emily Delekta added 12, while LeAnn Strzelecki put in 11.

The score was 25-all at the half, but the Vikings played better as the game progressed, coach Gary Bisson said.
