Winds knock out power to 10,000 homes

Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) had power restored to all but approximately 250 of its members by 11 p.m. Mondau night.

A winter storm advisory issued Monday afternoon brought another bout of high winds and blowing snow to northeast Michigan, slowing efforts to restore power to the remaining households left without power from Sunday?s winds and winter weather.

PIE&G estimates that approximately 10,000 may have been without power on Sunday afternoon across its nine-county service territory after damaging winds, snow and ice caused extensive power line damage due to falling limbs and trees.

PIE&G worked all available crews with help from outside contractors and additional call center staffing to respond to outages.

Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op members who lose power should contact them immediately at (800) 423-6634 to report outages or downed power lines.
