Posen takes on state ranked teams

Both the Viking boys’ and girls’ teams will be tested in their first outings of the new year against state ranked opponents.

The guys get it going with a road tilt against Fairview Monday, while the gals are home Tuesday hosting undefeated Arenac Eastern. Both games were originally scheduled before Christmas.

Girls’ coach Karl Momrik calls the contest against Arenac the biggest to date. Posen brings in a 4-1 overall mark. Arenac is a perfect 6-0. Both will bring in 3-0 league records into the match-up.

“They are a big team and well coached,” said Momrik. “They play zone just like we do, so we’ll have to

hit some outside shots to beat them.”

Momrik said none of Arenac’s first six opponents could make outside shots against them. Following the early season skirmish for first, the Vikings are at Hale Friday, January 9.

THE BOYS were back in practice Monday night after a five-day layoff for Christmas. “They all are in pretty good spirits,” said head coach Steve Hentkowski at practice. “I guess they all had a pretty good Christmas. Santa has been good to them. Hopefully, Santa will be good to us the rest of the year. We have a couple of tough games back-to-back.”

After the Fairview contest, the Vikes host Hale next Thursday (January 8). Shane Hentkowski has been the leading scorer with 19 points per game average. Tina Mulka has lead the girls’ offense with 12 points per game.
