Hurons travel to Hillman for first football game

Coming off consecutive 7-3 playoff seasons, the Huron football team gets back to the gridiron Friday at 7 p.m. at Hillman. Coach Mike Kosiara?s teams have never lost to Hillman, winning 23-6 in 2004, 46-0 in 2005, 42-0 in 2006 and 12-0 last season. The Hurons have recorded six shutouts in Kosiara?s four seasons, with half of those coming against Hillman.

Although the Hurons have defeated Hillman each of the past four seasons, the Tigers should not be taken lightly. After losing to the Hurons in the season-opener last year, the Tigers rebounded by winning eight of their next nine games. Last year they defeated Coleman, AuGres, Arenac Eastern, Alcona, Atlanta, Posen and Hale in the regular season. They lost a 34-42 contest with Mio September 21 and then came back to top the Thunderbolts 28-0 in the first week of the playoffs.

A five-game winning streak ended with a 42-6 loss to Frankfort in the second round of the playoffs. Rogers City will be sporting a new look uniform featuring black pants with a thick orange stripe with either a white top or black top with a matching stripe. The uniforms, ordered early in the spring, arrived late last week, in time for the first game but not in time for the team photo, which appears in the Fall Sports Special, enclosed with this edition of the Advance.

A squad of 18 players will take to the field with sights set on a third consecutive run to the playoffs. The first home game comes next week with Posen.
