Sobek and Styma top of Posen class of 2008

Posen High School has announced the class of 2008 honor students. Valedictorian Ashley Sobek will lead the 21 member class in commencement on Friday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. Sobek (4.00) is the daughter of Joseph and Sallea Sobek. She has participated in pep club, student council, Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.), National Honor Society, ski club, orange team and trip club. Sobek has also played both basketball and softball.

Sobek has been student of the week, she won the social studies award, was a member of the North Star League (NSL) Academic first team, was named to second team All-Conference basketball team this season, and was All-District and All-Region in softball in 2006. After graduation Sobek plans to attend Grand Valley State University to study in the medical field.

Salutatorian Ashley Styma (3.96) is the daughter of Paul and Beverly Styma. She has been a member of the trip club, student council, pep club, National Honor Society, S.A.D.D., Educational Talent Search, orange team and basketball team statistician. She has been student of the week, student of the month and on the honor roll. Styma plans to attend Grand Valley State University to study medical imaging after graduating in June.

Paul Kroll (3.94) is the son of Gerald and Joanne Kroll. Kroll has been involved with Educational Talent Search, S.A.D.D., trip club, pep club, National Honor Society, St. Casimir?s Catholic Youth Group, and the basketball and football teams. He has been named PHS student of the month and as well as the Alpena News student of the week. Following graduation Kroll plans to study mechanical engineering at either Grand Valley State University or Lake Superior State University.

Kathryn Olsen (3.82) is the daughter of Tom and Lori Olsen has been a member of the trip club, pep club, ski club, student council, S.A.D.D., National Honor Society, Educational Talent Search and the orange team. Olsen has also played volleyball and softball for the Vikings. After graduation Olsen plans to attend Central Michigan University to pursue a degree in dietetics.

Megan Haske (3.79) is the daughter of Dave and Barbie Haske. Haske has been a member of the student council, pep club, National Honor Society, S.A.D.D., Educational Talent Search, ski club, trip club and the orange team. She also plays basketball and softball for the Vikings. She was named academic All-State for softball and was the rookie of the year when she was a freshman. After graduation Haske plans to attend Southern Oregon University to pursue a degree in athletic training.

Renee Purol (3.57) is the daughter of James and Marie Purol. She has been on the student council, in trip club, ski club, S.A.D.D., the orange team, Educational Talent Search, and a member of the volleyball team. She was named most improved on the volleyball team, has been on the honor roll and was student of the week. Purol plans to attend Alpena Community College to study nursing when she graduates from PHS in June.

Nicholas Idalski (3.51) is the son of Randy and Laura Idalski. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the orange team, S.A.D.D., and is the editor of the yearbook. Idalski has also played football, basketball and baseball for the Vikings. Idalski was first team All-Conference for baseball as a junior, second team All-Conference for football as a senior, and was honorable mention All-Conference as a senior for basketball. After graduating from Posen High School Idalski plans to attend Alpena Community College to get an associates degree in business administration before transferring to a four-year college to obtain his bachelor?s degree.

Kori Latz (3.28) is the daughter of Jeffry and Bonnie Latz. She has been involved with the trip club, pep club, student council, ski club, S.A.D.D., the orange team, basketball, volleyball and softball. Latz has been on the honor roll, was student of the week and earned the academic achievements award. After graduation Latz plans to attend Alpena Community College to study criminal justice before transferring to a university to further her degree.

Nathan Strzelecki (3.25) is the son of Tim and Ann Strzelecki. He has been involved in student council, trip club, pep club, S.A.D.D., the orange team, Educational Talent Search, football, basketball and baseball. He was named to the first team All-Conference for baseball. After graduation Strzelecki plans to attend college to pur

sue a career in criminal justice as a conservation officer.

Nicholas LaTulip (3.18) the son of Joe and Michelle LaTulip has been in the trip club, the orange team, football and basketball. He has named the first team All-Conference for basketball as well as honorable mention All-State. After graduation LaTulip plans to pursue a degree in engineering.

Andrea Lijewski (3.13) is the daughter of Mike and Alice Lijewski. She has been a member of Educational Talent Search and the orange team. After graduation she plans to join the United States Army for three years before attending Lake Superior State University.

Logan Krajniak (3.03) is the son of Gary and Lois Krajniak. He has been a member of the trip club, the orange team and the football team. After graduation Krajniak plans to attend Lincoln College of Technology.
