Although most of us haven?t been pleased to see more snow falling this week, there is one group who is, the snowmobilers. With the fourth annual antique and vintage snowmobile show scheduled for this Friday and Saturday in downtown Rogers City, many snowmobilers should be buzzing around the area. The event will kick off with the vintage ride Friday at noon at the 208 Club located off M-68. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the trails, as well as the bonfire and hot dog roast. Following the ride beginning at 4 p.m., the Water?s Edge Restaurant will be offering an all-you-can-eat cod dinner, as well as a limited menu until 10 p.m. Dinner and drinks will follow as will the viewing of film clips from past shows and races.

Local artist Steve Witucki has created a 24? by 28? mirror that will be auctioned off following the awards; all proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Kellie Wang family fund. The awards begin at 6 p.m. Saturday evening as well as announcing the results of the Chinese auction which will be going on throughout the day with many items donated from local businesses. The City of Rogers City has organized a snow sculpture contest that will be running throughout the city; cash prizes will be given to the winner and runner up. In order to be eligible to win, the sculpture must be registered at city hall. Saturday, March 8 is a day of many events at the snowmobile show, beginning with a breakfast buffet served at the Water?s Edge Restaurant and Lounge from 7-11 a.m. The show begins Saturday at 9 a.m. and runs until 3:30 p.m.

Registered sleds will line the parking lot of the restaurant, bringing many people, plenty of color, and some life to downtown Rogers City. Registration runs from 9 a.m. until noon and is free of charge. Last year the show attracted 175 sleds. A trail running behind the Water?s Edge toward the water treatment facility will give riders the opportunity to take the vintage sleds for a ride throughout the day. From 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. the swap will be going on; people are encouraged to bring parts and/or machines to sell. The fee to participate in the swap

is $10. A full bar menu will be available both inside and outside the Water?s Edge throughout the day Saturday. Lunch will be served outside at noon with chili, brats, hot dogs, and other items available for purchase. Show participants will vote on the awards including Best Original Antique (1968 and older), Best Original Vintage (1969-1980), Best Restored Antique, Best Restored Vintage and Best of Show. The awards are hand sketched glass trophies done by Witucki. Saturday evening a new event has been scheduled as a part of the show; entertainment at the Water?s Edge begins at 7:30 p.m. with open mic night.

The show will be come to an end with a final breakfast buffet at the Water?s Edge on Sunday, March 9 from 7-11 a.m. Anyone wishing to know more about the Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Show should contact Tina or Dan Derry at (989) 734-7039 or by email at budman2@speednetllc.com.
