Current Atlanta principal to take over in RC

by Peter Jakey– Managing Editor

There has been a youthful infusion to the top administrative posts in the Rogers City Area Schools. First, the board of education hired Dan Byrne from Wyoming to become their superintendent back in July. He is 35. Monday the board of education is expected to hire 30-year-old Jamie Huber as their new secondary principal. ?He?s energetic, (and) very knowledgeable of the position of principal,? said board president Mike Marx, who was part of the hiring committee. Huber has been the secondary principal in the Atlanta Community Schools since July.

IN ADDITION to Huber?s duties as principal in Atlanta, he has served as athletic director, football and track coach, academic advisor, career counselor, and also has taught various teaching positions. Atlanta is the only district Huber has worked for. Huber will remain in Atlanta through the end of next week, before his first day in Rogers City, October 15. ?I?ve always had a good impression of Rogers City; obviously, it is a high performing school,? said Huber,

who attended last Friday?s homecoming game. In his initial thoughts of the district, he noted the energy and spirit of the students and the professionalism of the staff. Byrne has been holding down the principal job, while the committee searched for Deb Jones? replacement. Jones left the district before the beginning of the new school year. HUBER DID his undergraduate work at Central Michigan State University before graduating from Grand Valley State University. He lives with his wife Natasha in Cheboygan. She is a first grade teacher at Westside Elementary School in Cheboygan. They have a four-year-old daughter.

?I am truly excited to have him here, as a part of Rogers City Area Schools education team,? said Marx. ?We?re looking for some pretty big things on the horizon.? He would like to stay in Rogers City long term, although there are no immediate plans to move.
