RC track up to good start in first week

The Rogers City track teams have been on the road three times since the season began last Thursday, gathering experience and improving times early on. The Hurons traveled to Posen for the Presque Isle Championships Wednesday (after press time), and on Monday brought home two sixth-place finishes from the 10-team Inland Lakes Invitational.

?WE?VE BEEN trying to get everyone situated in their events, and fitting new people in events where they work best,? said coach Mandy Munger. ?We?ve had some real solid performances so far.? For the girls? team on Monday, senior Paula Vogelheim brought home a first place finish in the shot put, throwing 33?4? ? more than three inches beyond her closest competitor from Alanson, who threw 30?2?. Vogelheim also earned a fourth place finish in the discus with 71?7?. Another senior leader for RC, Chelsea Kreft, earned a second place finish in the 3200-meter run with her time of 13:51.07. Kreft also earned a sixth place spot in the 1600-meter run with 6:31.66. Cynthia Belusar earned her team some points with her fourth place finish in the long jump with 14?. 5?.

The 3200-meter relay team of Kelly Vogelheim, Emily Schleben, Chelsea Kreft, and Hilary Lynch took a fifth place finish in 12:16.76. The throwers relay team of Paula Vogelheim, Pattie Getzmeyer, Jessica Ruppert, and Kreft earned a fifth place finish in 1:10.97. The 800-meter relay team of Brogan Brege, Cynthia Belusar, Heather Luetzow, and Sarah Bruning earned fifth place with 2:10.36, while the 9/10 400-meter relay team of Alicia Belusar, Schleben, Kelly Vogelheim, and Ruppert took fifth place in 1:07.48. The 400-meter relay team of Brege, Lynch, Bruning, and Cynthia Belusar took sixth place with 1:00.66. Luetzow sixth place in the 400-meter dash with 1:11.21, and shared a three-way tie for sixth place in the 100-meter dash with 14.4 seconds.

The RC boys? team had an impressive first place finish in the 3200-meter relay with 9:05.92. That relay team consists of Tharin Wilk, T.J. Sobeck, Andy Grambau, and Zak McLennan. Andy Tulgestke earned a first place finish in the high jump with 5?9?. He also took sixth place in the long jump with 18?11?. The thrower?s relay team of Will Talaske, Reese Schmucker, Matt Schmucker, and Tulgestke took second place overall with 57.85 seconds. Kieliszewski earned third place in the 400-meter dash with his time of 56.36. He also earned fourth place in the high jump event with 5?9?.

Trent Holmes earned fifth place in the shot put event with 36?3?, while Grambau took fifth place in the 1600-meter run with 5:15.16. The 9/10 400-meter relay team of Andy Derry, Travis Lafferty, Lucas Trapp, and Cameron Wilk earned fifth place in 57.66 seconds, while McLennan took fifth place in the 800-meter run with 2:21.32. McLennan also had a sixth place finish in the 1600-meter run with 5:15.42, while the 1600-meter relay team of Kieliszewski, Tharin Wilk, Matt Schmucker, and Sobeck took sixth place in 4:04.

ON FRIDAY in Posen, the Rogers City girls and boys worked together and earned a fifth place finish out of eight teams. The 4×100 relay team of Brege, Mike Mie

rzwinski, Luetzow, and Holmes earned third place in 53.19 seconds. The 800-400-400-800-relay team of Lynch, Matt Schmucker, Cynthia Belusar, and Sobeck took third place in 7:30.4. The high jump team of Tulgestke, Kieliszewski, Ruppert, and Cynthia Belusar earned second place with 19?6?, while the discus team of Paula Vogelheim, Getzmeyer, Matt Schmucker, and Reese Schmucker took fifth place with 288?2?. The 6400-meter relay team of Tharin Wilk, Kreft, Hannah Gunn, and Grambau earned third place in 24:16.8. The long jump team of Tulgestke, Holmes, Cynthia Belusar, and Alicia Belusar earned fifth place with 60?10?.

In shuttle hurdles, the team of Kieliszewski, Mierzwinski, Lynch, and Kelsie Kasuba took sixth place in 1:22.7. The shot put team of Paula Vogelheim, Getzmeyer, Holmes, and Reese Schmucker took third with 124?11?. The 400-200-200-400-relay team of Kieliszewski, Brege, Tharin Wilk, and Luetzow earned fourth place in 3:10.6, while the 4×800 team of Tharin Wilk, Lynch, McLennan, and Kreft earned third place in 10:35.9. Last Thursday, the teams traveled to Cheboygan, where the boys took second place, and the girls earned third. Luetzow earned a first place finish in the 100-meter dash in 13.87 seconds, a first place in the 200-meter dash in 29.34 seconds, and a second place in the 400-meter dash in 1:09.9. Kreft took second place in the 3200-meter run with 13:31.44, while Paula Vogelheim took second in the shot put event with 34?1?. Vogelheim also took third in the discus with 79?. 5?. The 400-meter relay team of Cynthia Belusar, Luetzow, Kasuba, and Brege earned second place in 56.95 seconds. For the boys, the 3200-meter relay team of Tharin Wilk, Sobeck, Tulgestke, and Kieliszewski took first in 9:21.56. Kieliszewski also took first place in the 400-meter dash (55.23) and the high jump (5?8?). Grambau earned second place in the 1600-meter run (5:28.7) and the 800-meter run (2:23.04). Jacob Vogler earned first place in the 3200-meter run with 12:38.56, while Tulgestke earned second in the long jump with 17?6?.
