RC school board to continue superintendent search

The Rogers City School Board has a lot of work ahead of them with five remaining superintendent interviews to conduct, each lasting 90 minutes, and scheduled for Friday and Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Grambau Center. School board members met with John Jeffrey, the regional president of Michigan Leadership Institute for the northern Michigan area, during a special meeting on March 13, and also interviewed the first candidate for the superintendent position, Rogers City Area Schools principal Deb Jones. Jeffrey reported on Tuesday that one candidate, Joseph Thienes, had withdrawn himself from the search.

Board members will meet Friday and continue the interview process with Jeffrey D. Liedel, who is the superintendent of Vanderbilt Schools. He was also a teacher and principal in Vanderbilt. Dr. Mary Alice Krajenta will begin her interview at about 10:15 a.m. Krajenta is an Educational Consultant in Kalamazoo. She was a principal, counselor and teacher in Battle Creek. The board will break for lunch and reconvene at 12:30 p.m. for the interview of Daniel J. Byrne. Byrne is a middle school principal in Rawlins, Wyoming. He also is a former principal from Fairview.

Friday will end with the interview of David VanderGroot, who is a superintendent/principal of Crossroads Academy in Big Rapids. He is a former principal of schools in New Jersey and Illinois. Saturday?s interviews will begin with John Palmer, who is the current interim-superintendent for Posen Consolidated Schools. Palmer also was superintendent in Cheboygan.

Board members will immediately discuss the superintendent candidates after Saturday?s interview with Palmer, and they will attempt to name finalist(s) for the position before moving on to the next step in the search process.
