State ?okays? Grand Lake library drawings

Every approved step of the construction phase for the new library building in the Grand Lake area brings people of southeast Presque Isle County a day closer to checking out materials in a new facility. According to Presque Isle District Library director Jan Stevenson, mechanical drawings have been accepted in Lansing and a letter of approval was being sent to the main branch in Rogers City. Once the letter is received, ?We can proceed to the bidding process,? said Stevenson. Bid packages will be prepared by Capital Consultants, who is supervising the project for the Presque Isle District Library board.

IT?LL TAKE a few weeks to get the bid packages out to prospective companies. After that, it will be about 30 days before the board awards a final bid. A number of land and property issues have delayed the project over the last two to three years. Stevenson hopes to break ground when the weather improves. Construction may take approximately six months.

The new library will be constructed near the Grand Lake Chapel. The new library will be a 76? by 50? building. There will be a conference room, a children?s area, lounge, computer stations, as well as a friends? room. The property was purchased from Norris and Ruth Doyle of Presque Isle.
