Boys? bowling team beats Gaylord; wins conference

The Gaylord Blue team had been victorious over the Rogers City High School boys? bowling team before, but it was the Hurons? turn Saturday to beat Gaylord Blue, 26.5 to 3.5. The victory helped boost the Huron team into a first place position for the Northern Michigan Bowling Conference with nine wins and one loss.

?THIS WAS a good match to win because Gaylord Blue had beaten us three times in a row,? said coach Brian Bannasch. ?This win should give the team some added confidence heading into the regional competition (this weekend).? Rogers City started off the match with two baker wins, 202-165 and 193-182. The Hurons followed up those wins with a giant victory in the first regular game, 1,004-867. The Orange and Black continued the winning stre

ak in the second regular game with an 849-831 win over the Gaylord Blue team. Jared Fleming (173) won his individual match, while Dietlin tied at 140, earning his team a half point. Saturday?s victory gave the boys? team an added notch in the win column headed into regionals this weekend. The boys? ended their regular season with the top series score (2,068) and top baker series score (468) in the conference. Ferris had the second highest game score in the conference with 257. Last year, the boys? team finished third in regionals and qualified for state competition. They are hoping to improve that finish this year.
