Forest Township family loses everything in fire

An early morning fire destroyed the South Black River Road home of Victor and Michele Enos. There were five people in the house when it started December 28, but all got out safely.

According to a family member, the blaze started, for yet to be explained reasons, between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m.

Michele Enos said she woke up to the sound of smoke detectors going off in the home. By the time the family had woke up, the structure was filled with smoke and flames were spreading throughout the first floor, she said.

Michele?s first priority was to get her two daughters, Chelsea, 16, and Sarah, 11 out of the house, along with Quinton Ellenberger, who had been staying with them.

MICHELE LED everyone out a second story window. They lowered themselves onto a covered porch. Victor went downstairs to let out the pets.

Although Quinton ran to call 911, Michele?s father, Bob Decker, who lives next door, saw the flames and already had called for help. The glow of the flames could be seen from as far away as Cheboygan.

The house was a total loss, although the couple was able to save their vehicles. A firewall prevented further damage to the garage. The entire north side of the ?L? shaped home was gone by the time fire crews had the fire completely out.

Forest-Waverly fire crews responded to the blaze and requested mutual aid from the Onaway Fire Department at 3:12 a.m.

ACCORDING TO Onaway fire chief Eric Rose they assisted with the fire for about tw

o and a half hours.

Forest-Waverly fire crews were called out again Thursday afternoon and again Friday morning, because the fire flared up again.

According to the Cheboygan County Sheriff?s Department undersheriff, the fire remains under investigation. Deputy Brenda Chimner was handling the case for the department. A cause had not been determined, according to Michele, but there was an area investigators were looking at.

The family is staying with Michele?s parents, Bob and Judy Decker.

The Salvation Army assisted with vouchers for clothing as the family has lost everything.

Michele said they have received numerous donations from the community. She said they have everything they need.
