Two Hurons named to all-state squad

Two members of the 2006 Rogers City Huron football team made honorable mention in a statewide list. Juniors Chase McLennan and Bret Karsten not only made a dynamic passing duo, but they paired up again in making the Associated Press Class C honorable mention list. McLennan, who started every game at quarterback rushed 150 times for 672 yards, scoring nine touchdowns and running in one extra point.

He passed for 1,082 yards and 14 touchdowns. He completed 60-of-93 attempts (64 percent) with five interceptions and two extra points. His strong play at linebacker helped anchor a vastly improved Huron defense.

Karsten became the favorite target of McLennan?s passes, reeling in 38 passes for 768 yards (20.2 average per-catch) with 11 touchdowns and two extra points. He also carried the ball five times for 62 yards.

The Hurons, coached by Mike Kosiara and assisted by Andy Hayhoe, finished a fine season with a playoff appearance and a 7-3 record. The team started the season 6-0 and capped it by playing Ishpeming in the Division 7 playoffs.
