Rogers City will play November 16 at 8 p.m. in the Whittemore-Prescott district. The Hurons take on the winner of the November 14 game between Alcona and Whittemore-Prescott. THE HURONS ran up against the run-and-gun Cheboygan Chiefs last Friday and lost 63-22. Rogers City stayed with the highly-rated Chiefs in the early going. A great pass from Tiffiny Krueger set up Jenny Fleming for a short banker and then Chelsie Brege nailed a jumper. After that, the Chiefs went on a 19-4 run to lead 23-8 after the first quarter of action. Fleming?s shot at the 5:30 mark and Dana Fairbanks? two free throws at 3:19 were the only other Huron points in the frame. Hilary Lynch hit a layup and Heather Kowalski hit a jumper off an inbounds play before the Chiefs went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes of action.

THE CHIEFS like to use the entire court, pass the ball quickly and don?t hesitate to pull the trigger when a player is open. They used that strategy to build a 37-13 lead at halftime and 53-17 after three quarters. ?Cheboygan is by far the best team in the conference,? said Huron coach Paul Stempky. ?They run eight or nine strong players and they really get up and down the floor well.? Fleming led the team in scoring with six points while Fairbanks and Kowalski each scored four. Brege led the team with four rebounds.

IN THE JV contest, the Hurons spotted the Chiefs a 15-0 lead after the first quarter and then roared back to make it a game. Rogers City cut the lead to 20-10 at halftime and then turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter. With the lead shrunk to 25-23 the Hurons had a real chance of pulling off the win. But Cheboygan responded with an 8-0 run to end the quarter and were not challenged the rest of the way. Greta Grambau led the team with nine points while Katie Tulgetske and Leann Knopf each scored six.
