Wolverine to sell power to O-N

Wolverine Power Marketing Cooperative and O-N Minerals Company have signed a new, long-term power supply contract. According to company spokespeople, the agreement is projected to provide price stability and economic benefits at O-N Minerals? Rogers City limestone quarry. A member-owner of Wolverine Power Cooperative, WPMC sells electric energy at retail to a number of the state?s leading corporations and universities.

WPMC purchases its wholesale power supply from Wolverine Power Cooperative. In addition to WPMC, Wolverine Power Cooperative is owned by Cherryland Electric Cooperative, Grawn; Great Lakes Energy, Boyne City; HomeWorks Tri-County, Portland; and Presque Isle Electric and Gas Co-op, Onaway. In May, Wolverine Power Cooperative secured an option to purchase property south of Rogers City from O-N Minerals to evaluate the site for clean energy projects.

The co-op is studying the feasibility of a base load, coal-fired plant and wind generation to meet the supply needs of its member cooperatives.
