Presque Isle County golf champs crowned

The title of ?County Champions? was awarded following the 24th annual Presque Isle County Open held at the Rogers City Country Club and Stoney Links golf course in Onaway. Over a two-day period on July 29 and 30, golfers battled for the top spot. Eighteen holes were played at the RC Country Club as well as Stoney Links. Kathy Schmeltzer earned the women?s title with a score of 187. Schmeltzer was followed by Mary Sue Wozniak with 191 and Fawn Tucker with a 195.

Jim Johnson claimed the title with his championship flight score of 156 over 36 holes of play. Second place in the championship flight, and only one stroke behind the winner, was Ed Streich with a 157. First flight winner ended up in a tie between Ben Darga and Cory Goupell. Tied for second were Ken Wozniak and Jim Richetts. Dick LaPlaunt was the second flight winner. He was followed by Lowell Fleury and Jim Fissette.

Third flight went to Bill Allen. In second was Pete Ardini, followed by Rich Wozniak in third. The handicap flight winner for the ladies was Mary McLean. Joan Moran and Jean Havel followed her.
