Carsonville angler wins the RC Salmon Tourney for the second time in three years

For Dennis Cook of Carsonville, the gravy train is in Rogers City. Fishing out of Hammond Bay, Cook won the 22nd annual Rogers City Salmon Tournament with a 23.25 salmon and took home a $3,000 check. He has had the top fish in two out of the last three tournaments. Cook had a 24-pounder in 2004, and also captured the Last Chance Super Tournament that year. His earnings in Rogers City have been between $20,000 and $30,000. Cook also provided some drama on the last day of the tournament, knocking local Doug Claus? 20.50-pound salmon from the number one spot Sunday, 10 minutes before the ropes were closed for final weigh in. It was the last fish from the cooler, and Blake Gingrich of the Presque Isle County Tourism Council, who was placing the fish on the scale, knew it was a large fish. He held up the fish to the crowd gathered at the Lakeside Park band shell before placing it on the scale. Cook caught the salmon Sunday at 7:30 a.m. in about 120 feet of water.
