Minor girls are district champs, again

For the second year in a row, the Onaway minor league girls? all-star softball team (9 and 10 year olds) have earned the honor of district champs and are now on their way to clench the state championship.

The team, along with manager Rick McDonald, coach Dean Estep, parents, and fans will make the long journey south to Mattawan where the games will take place. Onaway, along with 16 other district champions, will compete in a double elimination tournament.

This bracketed schedule will be a weeklong competition to determine the state’s best. Onaway will play their first game against Taylor tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 a.m.

The team and fans will parade down Main Street this Friday morning, beginning their exciting journey to Mattawan.
