Onaway seniors to present ?Senior Exhibitions? Friday

Onaway High School expects to have approximately 45 seniors presenting their Senior Exhibition projects on Friday, starting at noon. This is the fourth year the school has included this culminating, year-end event in the graduation requirements.

According to principal Matt Lukshaitis, English teacher Emily Cummings has helped bring the project to be the event that it now is. ?She has done a terrific job of changing it to a project that the seniors take as a full class,? said Lukshaitis. ?They demonstrate how they take a concept or subject, research it, write about it, and articulate through an oral presentation.?

The project starts for many at the beginning of the last semester. Students are required to choose an ?expert? from the community as a subject. For instance, a student may choose someone who is a banker.

?The students work with a mentor teacher from within the school system, and they write a research paper based on their subject under the guidance of their mentor teacher,? said Lukshaitis. ?Finally, they will present their project to their expert, their mentor teacher, and any visitor(s) they invite.?

The culminating project is a symbol of the senior student?s end of his/her high school career. ?This is very much a celebration for seniors,? said Lukshaitis.

The presentations will take place Friday from noon to 1 p.m., from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
