‘A Tuna Christmas’ on stage at Rogers City Theater

Four shows of the hilarious production of ?A Tuna Christmas? will take to the stage of the Rogers City Theater. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and a 2 p.m. show on Sunday. The play follows the antics of the tiny town of Tuna, Texas, billed as the ?third smallest town in Texas, where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies.?

Set on Christmas Eve, the cast of eccentrics attempts to cope with the seasonal traumas of Christmas, including the production of A Christmas Carol, and a yard decorating contest that is being sabotaged by a mysterious Christmas phantom. Two actors portray all of the characters in the play. Sharing the stage will be Karl Heidemann and Dan Nordenbrock. Heather Nordenbrock, wife of Dan and daughter of Karl, shares directing duties with Scott Mikkelson.

The actors are faced with the challenge of playing all 22 characters, with quick costume changes a vital part of

the success of the show. The crew includes Lucy Kamyszek, Pennie Kelly, Meghan Harp, Marsha Schulwitz, Charlotte Heidemann, Anna Kamsyzek, and Mike Klann.

The play is a sequel to Greater Tuna, which began as a party skit based on a political cartoon more than 20 years ago in Austin, Texas. Creators Joe Sears, Jaston Williams, and Ed Howard authored the sketch into a popular and critically acclaimed play. The play was originally produced at the Marines Memorial Theater in San Francisco in September, 1989. It opened in New York City December 15, 1994. Sears earned a Tony for his portrayal of several characters.

A third Tuna play, ?Red, White, and Tuna? is the latest play about the adventures of the citizens of Tuna. The two-act show is a PG-rated comedy with an admission price of $8.
