Russell House runaways flee area in a stolen vehicle

Two runaways from the Russell House in Onaway took police in northern Michigan on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle August 23, before being apprehended near Gaylord and returned six hours later.

Presque Isle County central dispatch received a fax at 10:10 p.m. that two male juveniles, 13 and 16, who were wards of the state from Sault Ste. Marie and Cheboygan, had run away from the facility near downtown Onaway.

The subjects allegedly stole a vehicle from the back lot of Onaway Auto and Finance, and were later seen at a residence in Wolverine.

They left before police could get there and were last seen heading south on M-27 at a high rate of speed.

About a half-hour later, the vehicle was located on I-75 traveling southbound just north of Gaylord.

Within minutes, the vehicle was stopped and the juveniles were taken into custody. They were returned to Onaway at 4:34 a.m.

The teens face charges in Presque Isle and Otsego counties.
