Posen looks to regroup after tough losses to Cedarville and Mio

Posen girls basketball coach Tom Schellie said his team needs to regroup after dropping games against Cedarville and Mio and slipping to 2-2 with a home game on tap against Atlanta tonight. The Vikings had a difficult time with the press against a quick Cedarville team. The Trojans raced to a 37-16 halftime lead and went on to win 79-51. Schellie said there were too many turnovers, 22 in the first half alone, as Cedarville took control. ?They outhustled us,? Schellie said. Cedarville also knocked down some three pointers, much the way Mio did a few nights earlier. Even when the Vikes got a hand in the face of the shooter, the shot was being made.

Mary Calhoun scored 10 points, while Roxann Hincka had her fourth double double in four games. She had 13 points and 18 boards. ?We need to have some role player step up,? Schellie said. Posen was coming off its first loss of the season at home against Mio, 56-44. The girls used all their energy to erase a 12-point third quarter deficit, mostly from points scored by Calhoun, who made several running jump shots.

Posen tied the score at 38 with 45 seconds left in the third quarter, but as is the case in basketball, teams come back, but can?t maintain that level of play once they get there. The game was tied for 15 seconds but Mio went on an 8-2 run, scoring six points on three trips down the floor. Posen couldn?t get back on track. They?ll get another shot at Mio on October 6. Calhoun had a team-high 20, while Hincka tossed in 18.

After tonight, Posen travels to Rogers City Tuesday. The JV lost both of its games, 48-29 to Cedarville and 36-29 to Mio.
