JV football team in action

The Rogers City JV football team lost its second game of the year 20-16 to Alcona last week at Alcona. At halftime the Tigers were up 8-0 and scored again in the third quarter to make it 14-0. Rogers City then started a comeback with a 53-yard TD run by Kevin Fairbanks to make it 14-6. In the fourth quarter quarterback Michael Vogler completed a pass to tight end Jerome Gapczynski for a 33-yard gain which helped set up another TD run by Fairbanks to tie it at 14-14. Alcona soon scored again to make 20-14. The Rogers City defense pinned Alcona deep in its own territory with under one minute to go and Alcona chose to take a safety and then the free kick.

Rogers City was not able to score before the time ran out. Fairbanks finished with 107 yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Vogler was 4-for-8 for 63 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. The defense was led by Gapczynski with 10 tackles. Coach Chad Coolman said other Hurons with good performances were Dustin Hein, Joe Finch, Trent Hayhoe and Jordan Zempel.
