Snowcoming Spirit Week activities begin Monday

It’s that time of year again, the winter season is in full swing, and high schools all over Michigan are beginning to celebrate their winter homecoming events.

In Onaway, the week-long activities leading up to the basketball/dance next Friday (February 11) have been uniquely dubbed Snowcoming. Class meetings were conducted last week to schedule the Spirit Week activities and vote for members of the court.

THOSE ELECTED to the Snowcoming court include: seniors Debra Osantowski, Whitney Brooks, Derick Peterman, and Tim Kowalski. The junior representatives are Angela Norman, Justin Bruder, Justin Mason, and Lacey LaFave. Selected to represent the sophomore class are John Pomranke, Nicole Hillis, Randall Cope, and Tarci Amyotte; while

the freshmen class will be represented by Chelsea Kent, Danielle Chapman, Jerry Brewbaker, and Levi Dennis. In addition, Melle van Dijk and Hitomi Noji were chosen as special foreign exchange student representatives.

THE STUDENTS have designated Monday as College Wear Day; Tuesday, Tacky Tourist Day; Wednesday, Crazy Hair Day; Thursday, Time Warp/Favorite Era Day; and Friday will be the traditional day where students wear their school colors of red and white. The celebration will culminate with a pep assembly at the end of the school day next Friday, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the OHS gymnasium.

The Onaway JV basketball game begins two-and-half hours later at 6 p.m. against the Bellaire JV. The crowning of the king and queen will take place at halftime during the varsity game. Any student representative may be crowned crowned king and queen, not just the seniors. The Snowcoming dance will begin immediately following the game and lasting until midnight.
